The city’s attractive coastline, known as the Russian Riviera, has already helped Sochi to become one of Russia’s top resort destinations. Sochi attracts between 3.5 to 4 million tourists and holidaymakers each year.
The city is divided into four main administrative districts: Central; Hostinsky; Adlersky and Lazarevskoe where many hotels and camp sites are situated. The city’s architectural complex was designed by some of the best Soviet architects of 1930-1950.
The city has a subtropical climate on the coast yet it is only 40km from the alpine climate of the breathtaking peaks of Krasnaya Polyana.
The average temperatures summer is around 26°С and in winter it is around 6°С. Sochi is on the same altitude as Nice, Toronto and Vladivostok and, at 145 km, is thought to be the longest city in Europe.
The Caucasus Mountains, surrounding Krasnaya Polyana like an amphitheatre, are unique. Reaching heights of up to 3,000m, they form several altitudinal belts.
The Krasnaya Polyana mountain climatic resort is a popular Russian tourist destination and ski center. The highest point of Krasnaya Polyana is the Aibga Mountain (2,238m above sea level).
Winter in Krasnaya Polyana is characterized by many sunny days and low winds. Winter temperatures range from -5 to -12°С, with 2m of snow coverage in the mountains. The average temperature on the lower slopes in January-February is around 0°С. Its ski season lasts from December to the end of April.
